WILDERNESS Beaver 23
"Lukie"
2+2 Berth

This Beaver 23 was built by ourselves in 1987 and supplied to its original owner, externally complete but only partially fitted internally. The rest of the interior was completed to a good standard by the owner. The boat has been well-loved by the present owners who have progressively upgraded both equipment and furnishings during their ownership.

It is currently laid out as a 2 + 2, ie. “Family-four” with wardrobe and toilet compartments and galley sited amid-ships, effectively dividing the interior into two cabins. The spacious forward saloon, in day-time mode, provides extensive upholstered seating ( all new custom-made cushions fitted in 2018) around a demountable dining table large enough for 4 persons. At night, the seating and the de-mounted table convert to two singe berths . The other two berths are in the rear cabin. There is extensive locker space underneath all bench seats . Internal headroom is approximately 6 ft throughout.

The galley is located forward of the toilet and wardrobe forming a large open-plan cabin with the saloon area and consists of work tops on either side, accommodating, on the port side, a 2 burner hob, grill and oven in beige vitreous enamel in very good condition ; on the starboard-side there is a sink and drainer let into the worktop with the usual hot and cold mixer taps (served by a 12v. automatic pump ) and a late model Rinnai instantaneous water heater mounted on the adjoining bulkhead which is vented through the roof. There is also a foot pump supplying cold only . Below the worktop there are several easy-access open fronted shelves providing generous storage for food and cooking utensils; the storage below the port-side worktop is a good quality kitchen unit with solid oak drawer fronts and doors

There is currently no fridge on board; the Vendors have used a portable 12V cool-box which is reported to have performed satisfactory during cruising. Electrical power is from two 85 A/hr leisure batteries, a small 20 watt roof top solar panel and the outboard engine’s charging output. The batteries were replaced in 2016 and 2018 respectively and we are advised that they hold up well and cope with the boat’s domestic demands. The cool-box is included in the sale.

The boat’s forward saloon acrylic-glazed side windows have been re-rubbered in 2018 and the Vendors advise that there is no window or other leakage into the boat and that the bilge spaces below have always been dry. The floor is carpeted throughout and a cord-carpeted headlining makes this a warm, cosy boat with good internal acoustics. The 100L fresh water tank situated under the bow seating was replaced this year. The exterior of the vessel is above-average condition for its age: Both the hull and cabin coachroof are painted and the paint is adhering well. The hull below waterline is reported to be in good condition and has been re-antifouled in 2022. The cabin sides are in original pigmented gel coat and polish up well.

Lighting through out the main cabin is by modern low-energy LED units. The toilet compartment contains in addition to the Thetford Portapotti , a foldaway wash bowl with hot and cold supply and a free-standing cupboard unit for toiletries . The wardrobe also accommodates the boat’s batteries, the solar panel controller and the coolbox . Space heating is from a gas fired, room-sealed Propex HS 2000 blown-air heater which is thermostatically controlled and is reported to be running well.
