WILDERNESS Beaver Cub
1994 - 2 berth
"Barney"

We are pleased to be able to offer this well maintained, two-owner 5.4m (17ft 6”) Beaver-Cub (one
of only 7 built by us in the 1990’s ) and it comes as a complete trailboat rig with a twin-axle trailer.

The cabin, although short, has full standing throughout. Built to bespoke order for the original
owner, the forward saloon area has horseshoe-shaped seating around a central table; at night, this
space converts easily to either 2 generously-long single berths or, with table lowered, a large
double-across. During the day, bedding is easily stored under the bow quarter decks and there is
extensive top-access general storage under the saloon seating. The 100L freshwater storage tank is
located at low level at the forward end of the boat below the external gas cylinders locker .

The cushions are of high quality flame-retardant foam covered with a very durable, classic tapestry
fabric and the lined, 100% cotton curtains are all in good condition.
The galley to the rear on the port side, provides a worktop with a cream enamel sink and drainer
let in, a matching 4-burner gas hob with a hinged, toughened glass lid and a grill. There is a 60L
Electrolux fridge and storage shelves below.

Opposite the galley, is a wardrobe with a hanging rail at the top and clothes storage drawers below.
Aft of the wardrobe on this starboard side, is a moderate-sized, well equipped toilet/washroom
and shower compartment which also has an acrylic foldaway wash basin and other well-placed
accessories.
Space heating is from a quiet 2kw thermostatically controlled, gas-fired Propex blow-air unit
situated to the rear in one of the external stern lockers. The heater is a current design (fitted
2016), is room-sealed and BSS. compliant.

There is extensive storage space below the external cockpit locker lids which includes ample fuel storage and even a separate small locker for the storage of additional gas cylinders. One of the lockers which goes right down to the cabin sole, is deep enough to be capable of storing a folding bike (or possibly even two). There is also additional under-cockpit storage space entered from within the cabin below the rear access doors.
The boat originally had an opening sun-roof fitted which has subsequently been covered over but this could easily be re-instated.

The engine is an almost-new tiller-steered 15hp electric-start 4-stroke Mercury with power-tilt; it having been fitted in September 2020 but, due to covid restraints and owner ill health, has had only 3 hours use. It is still under warranty and will be test run and checked over before sale.
This engine with its pivoting steel tiller provides very responsive and direct steerage and gives this Beaver-cub with a very confident feel not found in many boat designs. It holds a steady and accurate line ahead with very little tiller movement, turns from stationary in little more than its own length and as with most of our Wilderness designs steers easily in reverse.

Whilst the boat is currently without hot water due to a failure (and removal) of the original water
boiler, the boat is offered to include the fitting of new Propex Malaga 10L water storage heater,
with the hot water supply to sink, shower and wash basin restored.
The craft is also fitted with professionally installed 240V AC electrics with 4 sockets.
There is also a 12v jack socket for laptops and phone charging .
One of the attractive details of the upgrade work carried out in the hands of the present owner is a
cabinetmakers-quality, fold-down storage box for a portable DVD player ( player not included).
Lighting throughout the boat is from twin-tube florescent lights, but these could be easily changed
to similar sized LED units.

There is an extensive inventory of loose equipment and a new 4-year Boat Safety Certificate will be obtained before completion.
The craft is in overall good condition, is free from external wounds and has the benefit a forward-
facing glass and hardwood windscreen and a full “pram-hood” type canopy which folds to the rear when under way. Both the canopy and the windscreen could easily be removed if preferred.

The 4-wheel galvanised road trailer included in the sale will be fully serviced ( including fitting new wheels and tyres) before hand-over to a new owner. The trailer has also been modified to allow
the boat to be loaded and transported either bow-first, or stern-first; again, evidence a thoughtful, experienced trailboat owner. A new matching spare-wheel is included in the sale as are coupling head and wheel locks, load security straps and a working 7ft lighting board.

In short, this well-fitted, bespoke 2-berth trailboat rig is capable of easily accessing any of the UK’s
inland waterways as well as (by cross-channel ferry) most of the waterways of Europe including the
picturesque canals and rivers of France – “parlez-vous Francais ? “.
